Hood: Porter Square
Cuisine: Pub
Site: http://www.christopherscambridge.com/
9/2009: Refreshing caeser salad and gazpacho in a low-key atmosphere.
1/2010: Best veggie burger I've ever eaten. Reliable, veg-friendly menu.
3/2010: A third visit is unusual for me, so I feel like I need to explain ... Christopher's is ideal for a mixed crowd; the picky, the foodie, and the frugal--going solo or in a party--anyone can find something to enjoy.

Central Kitchen
Hood: Central Square
Cuisine: New American
Site: http://www.enormous.tv/central/index1.html
6/2010: My new best friend is Chad at the bar, who dished us the recipe for his cucumber lemonade. My meal of grilled cheese (no, not the sandwich) and some unrecognizable grain was recognizably delicious. Gourmet. Accessible.

Brown Sugar Cafe
Hood: Allston
Cuisine: Thai
Site: http://www.yelp.com/biz/brown-sugar-cafe-boston-2
4/2010: Like its counterpart, the Similans, this restaurant has a massive menu and speedy service. A standard, likely to please anyone remotely interested in Thai food.

Burdick's
Hood: Harvard Square
Cuisine: Dessert
Site: http://www.burdickchocolate.com/
3/2009: Admittedly, not quite to my expectations--still enjoyable, tasty, drinking chocolate.
4/2010: Chocolate Mice? Even a vegetarian can appreciate this type of meat.
10/2010: Not sure what changed between my first visit and this visit, but suddenly this drinking chocolate became life changing. Because I got dark instead of milk? Because I learned you could mix flavors? Because I paired it with a raspberry meringue?

Bertucci's
Hood: Harvard Square (among others)
Cuisine: Italian
Site: http://www.bertuccis.com/
12/2009: Given my prejudice against chains, I was somewhat surprised at its tastiness. But only somewhat. Fairly standard chain Italian after all, but with phenomenal rolls.

Pomodoro
Hood: North End
Cuisine: Italian
Site: http://www.pomodoroboston.com/
1/2011: Slightly squashed atmosphere adds to its charm, as do the tall stools and free appetizer and dessert (even though I could eat neither of them, any place who gives free stuff is up on my list). Simple menu with unique twists. Wild mushroom ragu was wine-y (that's a good thing) and flavorful.

Border Cafe
Hood: Harvard Square
Cuisine: TexMex / Cajun
9/2009: Fun atmosphere, a local Harvard-square classic, good for a medium-sized, loud group. Yummy veggie jamabalaya--filling, and surprisingly different.
12/2009: Reliably tasty veggie options. Fried plantains = mmmmmmm.

Baraka Cafe
Hood: Central Square
Cuisine: North African
Site: http://www.barakacafe.com/
4/2010: Prepare to settle down for a time, while enjoying the slightly squashed, warm, pleasant atmosphere. Get rosewater lemonade while you wait. I ordered the Melkha (stuffed eggplant and cheese), which had delicious and interesting flavors. Not life-changing, but worth a visit or two.

2/2010: Just not as good as Pinkberry. Nor Red Mango.
6/2010: Same as above, but nonetheless enjoyable.

Atlantic Fish Co.
Hood: Back Bay
Cuisine: Seafood
Site: http://www.atlanticfishco.com/
10/2009: (Back in my "I am in Boston, where vegetarians can eat fish" days) Moist, tender fish fillet.
11/2009: (Started my "Why in the world would I ever want to eat the flesh of another animal again?") Could it have something to do with the overpriced, slightly dry Boston Red Fish?

Addis Red Sea
Hood: Back Bay
Cuisine: Ethiopian
Site: http://www.addisredsea.com/
11/2009: If you are the type who always eats pizza with your hands, drinks soup from the bowl, eat here. All finger food served with spongey bread. Good to try once for anyone, but the similarity of textures left the palatte a bit wanting.

Mela
Hood: South End
Cuisine: Indian
Site: http://www.oneworldcuisine.com/Restaurants/Mela/m_index.php
10/2010: Fresh twist on classic favorites - unlike most Indian restaurants I've tried, each dish was fresh with a unique flavor. Highly recommend the chef's dishes.
12/2010: Phenomenal, reasonable vegetarian feast for two. Or three. $35.
1/2011: Another shot at the vegetarian feast for two. Service a bit slow, but a $20 groupon made it worth the wait.
